Storrs, CT -
Vincent Council who had one of his best performances ever as a Friar misses a last second three that would have propelled Providence to a thrilling victory. Providence trailed late 70-59 with 3:35 to go when they scored 13 straight in 1:25 seconds, but it was still not enough against a strong Connecticut team. Connecticut was led by Omar Calhoun who has 26 points and Shabazz Napier who provided 14 points, and 10 assists. Providence had four players in double figures, but it was not enough. Council had 21, Batts 18, Cotton 16, and Henton 13. The Friars fought hard on the road, but were not rewarded with a win. They forced UConn into 13 turnovers and were especially effective in the press they implemented after halftime. Providence will make the short trek back home for a matchup with the Seton Hall Pirates.
